OPEN CUT TRENCHING
Also known as CHAIN TRENCHING
Open cut trenching utilises a continuous looped chain, similar to a large chainsaw to cut a channel (trench) to a predetermined depth and width into the ground. The soil removed is deposited adjacent to the trench ready for replacing after the pipe is laid.
Where surface disruption is not an issue or the ground is unsuited to impact moling, open cut Trenching offers a viable alternative, especially across grass or harvested fields.
An open cut trencher is suitable for Private & Commercial Work and is typically used for laying services such as:-
Water pipes, Electric cables, Telephone, Gas, Ducts, Drainage Runs and Irrigation Pipes, etc.
COMMERCIAL WORK EXAMPLE
Chain Trenching across a playing field to lay 32mm water pipe for a new facility at Sutton Valence School, Kent, South East England.
The ground conditions and work area lent itself to this method of excavation. A narrow trench with fine crumb spoil was all that was needed for the single 32mm pipe, across the flat tightly mowed playing fields. The speed of the operation and back filling at the same time, meant 250 metres were done by lunch.
In places where the ground is not suitable for the open cut trencher, or the trench needs to be bigger to take larger services, we use our excavator.
